Our Legacy
Value Carpets Inc., a specialty manufacturer of grass carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet, and marine carpet, announces new ownership. Jeremy Tatum, former Director of Operations for Logistics with Mohawk, has purchased the company from its previous owners, Wayne and David McDaniel and Laura McDaniel Lowery. Value Carpets Inc. was started on January 2, 1975, by Carlton McDaniel and Carl Poteet, focusing on the niche market of grass carpet. After buying out Mr. Poteet, Carlton grew the business by adding indoor/outdoor carpet and marine carpeting.
Wayne joined the family business in 1982 and became President when Carlton retired in 1992. David joined the business in 1995 and took over as President when Wayne retired in 2015. When Jeremy learned that the McDaniels were contemplating selling the business, he envisioned owning a business that he could pass down to his three sons. Being a cousin to the McDaniels made this an opportunity for the business to stay in the family, which all were excited about. With the recent challenges in the grass and indoor/outdoor fields, Jeremy knew that the possibility of growing the business was strong. After securing new sources for yarn, Jeremy has positioned himself to be able to fill the voids left by other manufacturers who have dropped product lines and colors recently.
Being a small business has made for an atmosphere of closer relationships with their customers. David McDaniel said “I will miss dealing with the families that we have served over the years. It has been a blessing to deal with the children and grandchildren of the owners that we began doing business with years ago. I look forward to Jeremy continuing the tradition of families doing business with families.” Jeremy is excited to continue this tradition, “I am honored to carry on the 48 year legacy of our family business as now the third generation owner. As a father of three sons, I feel that my life and career with the US Marines, United Parcel Service and Mohawk Industries, Inc., has prepared me to lead our business so that it continues its success to future generations.”
